Our well known Classic; this was the first ale produced by the Brewery, back in 2003, when we were called Topsham & Exminster Brewery. We may have changed our name and refined the recipe a tad, but Ferryman remains a firm favourite with many and remains one of our best-sellers.

A copper coloured Premium ale. Beautifully well balanced flavour enhanced with generous handfuls of English Goldings hops. All our ales are cask conditioned and made using only the finest local sourced ingredients, including traditionally floor-dried, locally produced malts.

Hand-pulled cask pint in The Cock Hotel, 25th May 2018. Mahogany body, off-white blanket of foam on top. Malty, floral nose, semi-sweet malty taste with a little hop bitterness for balance. A decent traditional English Bitter all round.

Cask at the Bull and Blacksmith, Chillington, Devon. Clear reddish-amber with a cream-coloured head. Nice spice and malt flavour up front. Maybe gets a little caramelly by the end, but a pleasant enough smooth, easy-drinking bitter nevertheless.

Half-pint, cask ale, shared with Finn at Great Western Hotel Loco Bar. Filmy layer blanketing the glass. Close to clear amber-brown. Grass and brown malty nose. Blended taste of mellow fruits and caramel. Marmalade impression. Mid-sweet ending. Fair enough (Exeter 27.09.2016).

Cask @ Kitty’s, Helsinki. Aroma has bready malt, some toffee and hay. Flavour is rather bready with malt and some grapefruit. Finishes with grassy and some slightly harsh herbal bitterness. A bit watery, the hops are nice though.
