Can, 6.4%. Weak bready and metallic aroma. Clear dark brown colour. Good stable plasticky light brown head. The flavour is watery with a mild spicy sugar note. Dark sugar. Mild notes of dark bread.

500 ml can. Pours a reddish brown with full head. Aromas of caramel malts, candi sugar, and fruity Belgian yeast. Flavors of follow same though more muted with additional dark fruit and emphasis on malts. Malty and sweet but overall an OK Belgian Brune.

OK, the part I don't understand is that my can says produit du france, with a note about the Moroccan importer. This is absolutely a late night hotel swill in Casablanca before catching the early bus to Fez kind of beer. But I bought it in Moncton. There are no buses from Moncton to Fez. I mean, I didn't look but it's a reasonable assumption. Really nothing about this being a Dutch beer on my can. And United Dutch Breweries is one of the world's foremost purveyors of Indian-style malt liquor, a style I waxed poetic about earlier this very evening. Of course the can also says traditional golden abbey beer when it is labeled as a double and is dark brown like a dubbel. Sloppy QA on the old graphic design there. Gotta QA the copy, too; you can't trust designers with that. Good opportunity to use my Leffe glass, though. Backstory aside, this is dark brown, with a thin head. This has a heavy brown sugar note, with a fair bit of plummy fruitiness. A touch of acidity in the finish alongside the esters, but it's still more on the creamy/sugary side of the style. Presents clean, if simple, no off-notes, and it's not yeasty. It's fine.

20/X/24 - 75cl bottle from Lidl (NL) @ home, BB: 16/XII/24 5, P: 16/6/23 08 (2024-1143)
Clear dark brown beer, small creamy dense beige head, stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: yeasty, banana, some caramel, lots of banana, a hint of chocolate. MF: lively carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet start, lots and lots of bitter banana peel, soapy, caramel, some coriander, gentle roast, a bit sourish, sugary sweetness. Aftertaste: some chocolate, pretty bitter, soapy, spicy, more banana, sugary, caramel, ok. Not very good, but decent enough, especially for a commercial Lidl beer.

Appearance: Cloudy deep brown with a decent ivory-coloured head. Aroma: Dark malt, caramel, treacle, esters. Taste: Pretty sweet. Dark malt, caramel, treacle, esters., some hop. Light plus ending hop bitterness. Mouth feel: Medium body, soft to average carbonation. Summary: A bit too sweet. Not bad though.

Sampled at Hopscotch 2023, pours a dark brown with an amber tinge and a small beige head. Aroma has toasted bready malt, caramel malt, and a touch of dark dried fruits. Lots of toasted caramel and dark fruits on the finish. The yeast doesn't seem exactly dialed in right but it's not bad.
