17/5/2025. Bottle from Hopsters, Ipswich. Pours close to black with a small frothy beige head. Aroma is woody, musty, dark fruits, berries, port wine, blackcurrant. Really doesn’t pick up much in the way of imperial stout elements, has lots of wood, port and dark fruits. Dry finish. Enjoyable but not quite as expected.

330ml bottle - Pours black with a small tan head. The aroma is dark roasted malts, cocoa powder, dark fruits, plum, fig, berries and earthy spice. A rich roasted and bitter taste, dark roasted malts, ripe dark fruit, plum, raisins, fig, molasses, bitter chocolate and spicy flavours with vinous and woody notes and a bitter roasted finish.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up online. Pours rich brown with a small, creamy khaki head. Medium sweet flavour with sturdy ashy roast, tangy berries, earth, tobacco, raisins, booze, old barrel wood. Full bodied, lightly chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish, has a little acidity that cuts through the dark beer character nicely, some further berry notes, old leather, modest earthy bitterness, background ashy dryness. Good stuff.

Can @ SirAlex and Bickle night, Oluf Bagers Gade. Pours black with a small beige head. Tannins and roast beneath. Cherry wine, dark dried fruit, raisins and wood. Tartness. Base beer is lost. Giant shame.

13th March 2021 Opaque dark brown beer, patchy thin tan head. Smooth palate, slightly viscous, decent fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts. A little dark malt cream. Quite a robust tang here, heading towards the border that has the sour flag hoisted. Sourish chocolate mousse. Something burnt lingers in the background, fortunately way back. Warre's 1977 Port is a proper Vintage Port and like all Ports from that year, it's robust and drinking well now and likely for years to come. Somewhat surprised to see it blended here. Good port wine berry fruits, good and intense like it's parent Port Wine. Smooth finish. Hmm. Wanted to like this, not every day you see a beer directly associated with a propah Vintage Port. However, despite the obvious Port presence here, there is too many unwelcome distractions and ultimately it feels like a bit of a waste of the precious 77.
