We love partnering roasty malts with plenty of hops and this dark and delicious stout certainly packs the hops in. A cocktail of dark specialist malts was combined with Citra and Centennial hops for notes of orange citrus, dark chocolate and coffee.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from the brewery’s online shop. Pours black-brown with a big, frothy khaki head. Medium sweet flavour with strong ashy roast, torched pine, earth, old leather, orange peel, dried leaves. Medium bodied with active, massaging carbonation. Drying and ashy to finish, notes of bitter dark chocolate, tar, earth. Solid, toothy beer.

440ml can. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma roasty/chocolate malts and piney and citrusy hops. Taste of roast malt, chocolate, coffee, pine, citrus, very bitter. Medium bodied. Probably hoppy enough to pass of as a BIPA even. Lovely stout.

Third of a pint on 29th November 2023, Good Libations, Southampton. beige top on a black body, looked good. Malty front with a citrussy hop undertone, which collides with the chocolate and coffee flavours in this unconventional Stout. Not too sure I liked the blend of hops used to be honest.

Can from Against The Grain. Black body with a thick tan head that holds well. No visible carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of blood orange and pine. Flavour of pine and orange zest. Medium body with a chewy mouthfeel. Soft fizz. A tangy, hoppy delicious stout. Kernel-esque.

Can that I picked up from Elusive brewery webshop, Finchampstead, UK. Consumed at home Saturday 30th October 2021 listening to Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show on 6 Music. Pours black with a huge billowing cappuccino coloured head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt and fresh hops. This beer whilst a Foreign Export Stout could in the next mouthful trick you into believing that it's a BIPA, there is so much going on with this. Fruity, some grapefruit marmalade, then bitter cocoa but then the freshness of the hops, oh my... Superb beer and my beer of the night. I tweeted about this and got a response from Andy Parker, the brewer. He said that this is his love letter to the Kernel..... it's fantastic

Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Pours a very dark imperial purple with a small tan head. The nose is a heady combination of cream, plums and chocolate. Lots going on in the mouth too. Dark fruits, liquorice and treacle are to the fore, but shouts out for blueberries, coffee and chocolate as well. And the alcoholic strength lies underneath and accentuates it all. Finish is dry and fruity. This is pretty d*mn gorgeous !

Black beer, thick and foamy tan head. Smells a little fruity and hoppy. Flavour has dark chocolate, some light hops, toasty malt, some grassy hop, a little fruit too. Smooth, hearty, good flavour.

Can ordered from A Hoppy Place, Windsor. Aroma has coffee and and berries plus big streak of vanilla. Dark. Not particularly glossy or inky. Foamy beige head. Initial sweet sugary burst. A wave of bitter coffee and quinine then follows. Low key underlying sourness, in which the sugary sweetness reappears into the finish. Medium bodied. Creamy. Average prickly carbonation. Enjoyably bitter with a sweet counterbalance.
