Double Diamond was the biggest selling beer of the 1970s as the keg revolution took the UK by storm. Hated by CAMRA, loved by customers (including the late Prince Philip) Double Diamond is now available for the first time in decades, brewed to a new and improved recipe.

440ml can from Bier Huis. Gluten Free. Clear golden colour, bubbly white foam head and aroma of citrus, hops. Taste is sweetish, malt, grain, biscuit, with grapefruit notes, and citrusy hop bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying citric bitter finish. Quite drinkable.

Keg at the Coach Makers, Marylebone. It pours clear golden - blonde with a huge, fluffy white head. The aroma is soft, sweet, candied citrus, lemongrass, perfumed, toasty grains and crisp biscuity malt. The taste is crispy, dry, small, pleasing bitterness, lemon, lime, lemongrass, florals, peppery spice, soapy vibes, grass and biscuit with a drying finish. Average body and quite, high, foamy carbonation. I would imagine this is more flavourful than the OG. Not bad. Reasonable summer quencher.

Nose is grapefruit, lemongrass, gooseberry. Bitter citrusy taste. Lightly hoppy finish. Wasn't the original Double Diamond a lot darker than this 🤔?

Keg at The Hole in the Wall, Waterloo. Aroma has low key fruit. Slightly bitter edge. Underlying shy malts. Clear light gold. Foamy translucent white head. Light bitter. Grainy. Slightly woody. With an equally limp citrus streak. Light. Thin. Soft-fizzy carbonation. Long dry somewhat astringent finish. Borefest. And ideas smoked? Really?!
