Ridgeback staat bekend om zijn complexiteit in smaak en zijn hoge alcoholpercentage. Een hoger suikergehalte en alcoholpercentage maakt het bier zoet en het krijgt daardoor ook duidelijke tonen van karamel en Haagse Hopjes.

Pale brown colour. Thin head. Candied fruits, toast, sultanas, those sorts of aromas. Moderate bitterness, more candied fruit, tobacco, biscuity malt and nutty accents. It's a bit husky/harsh in the finish, so I wonder if I'd like one of the treatments more. Not bad, though.

Can shared by NDP. Dark brown with beige head. Quite sticky, burnt caramel, some dried fruit, touch of chocolate. Drinks nicely.

1/1/2023. Bottle from Bacchanalia, Mill Road, Cambridge. From 2017 with 55 IBU. Pours very dark mahogany brown with a ruby tint and a creamy beige head. Aroma is rich, boozy, toasted malt, toffee, fig, prunes, dried fruits, touch of coffee and molasses. Moderate sweetness, quite heavy bitterness. Medium to full body, sticky, soft carbonation. Very nice aroma, enjoyable, but heavy bitterness to finish lacked balance and can see why it's been toned down.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours a cloudy, opaque deep brown with a light brown head. Sticky, nutty malts in the nose. Rich, fat body, rustic caramel and toffee and nuts, biscuity and molasses with some bittering hops in the finish. Almost coffee notes. Yes, quite rustic - far from a smooth caramel bomb. 221122

Can 33cl. from a local AH supermarket @home poured into a tulip glass. Sweet roasty nose. Clear briljant ruby brown colour, good frothy beige head, dissipating slowly to a thick layer, light lacing. Rich aroma sweet and roasted malts, caramel, raisins, tiramisu, liquorice, coffee, alcohol. Smooth taste, medium sweet and light bitter, malty, roast, caramel, raisins, chocolate, brown sugar, alcohol notes, pine resin. Full-bodied, oily to moderate sticky texture, dry roasty sweetbitter aftertaste, brandy notes, rum beans, spicy touch. Rich and overpowering but extremely well-balanced, excellent brew!

Pours a dark brown colour with a red hue. A big dense beige head with little retention. Aroma's: from the glass there's toast, roast, light sweetness and fruit. Retronasal: sweet, fruity/ fruit candy, light roast. Flavour is quite sweet but with some roasty bitterness. Above medium bodied. Moderate bitter finish.

(Keg, packaged 2020-12-06, at Pikkulintu Kontula, 20220709) The beer poured dark brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and nearly white. Aroma had toasted malts, caramel, raisins and prunes. Palate was full bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were prunes, raisins, malts, grass, toasted notes, light sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty, dry and bitter. A delicious malty brew with beautiful notes of ageing.
