It's a Belgian strong dark ale (8,5%) enriched with American oak chips and bourbon whiskey. Full bodied, dry bitter and complex with tones of vanilla, coconut and pear.

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroms is heavy on the wood with dark malt, caramel, bourbon, vanilla, grains, and notes of raisins. Flavour is medium sweet and light bitter. Body is medium. Could have been a bit more full, but after a few recent bourbon 'infused' turds this one is actually quite pleasant.

Bottle from FinestBelgianBeers. Pours a very very dark drown colour (almost black) with a thin creamy looking beige head. Nice lacing. Aromas of dry dark fruits, caramel, whisky, wood, vanilla, coconut and brown sugar. Taste is very unusual with the same notes as the aroma with more pronounced coconut, vanilla, whisky, wood and also some milk and milk chocolate notes. A little prickly carbonation on the palate. Light bodied with a medium length fairly dry finish. Pretty weird beer. i do not like this one much.

Dark brown with lasting head. Aroma and flavour have plenty of malts. Also light sugary, vanilla sweetness. Misses a bit of body and depth.

Clear deep amber beer, small pale tan head. Smooth and semi dry palate, reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth malts, a little creamy sweetness. Trace of oak. Mild spice. Very ripe fruits, little prune and plum. Light spicy finish. Interesting and flavoursome but lacks a pinch of pixie dust to take it to the next level.

330ml bottle from, I think, Vanuxeem. Pours deep brown, large pale cream tan head. Creamy fudge nose. Taste is smooth with gentle vanilla, milk chocolate, fudge, nutty caramel, distant bourbon. Quite an enticing desert-like sweetness here, underpinned by just the right alcohol strength. Good stuff.

Dommage.

Second edition in this series of Scheldebrouwerij specials, bottle from De Caigny. "Massieve ale" aged on oak chips and bourbon, with thickly moussy, sparsely lacing, pale yellowish beige, creamy, frothy head and very dark burgundy brown robe with ruby hue, still translucent, initially clear. Aroma of strong damp earth, hint of manure even but fading as it stands, moist walnuts, dried plums, baked banana, wet caramel candy, wet wood hints indeed but subtle, brown bread, hints of stewed black radish, dirty potatoes straight from the soil, raw red cabbage, mustard seed, rosehip tea. Dried fruits in the onset, background raisin sweetness, sourish brambleberry hint, medium carb, nutty malt body, brown bready, brown sugary sweetness lingering but thinly so, soft wet toast bitterishness, lingering sourishness; finish indeed adds wood chip tannins (but vanilla-ish impressions of oak remain very subtle), bourbon remains in the background which is probably a good thing here. Herbal, tea-ish hop bitter touches, somewhat astringent, warming rum-like alcohol; lingering malt sweetishness. Alcohol accentuates bitterness. Enjoyable enough, but could have been so much more I think... Too harsh in alcohol astringency, bit too thin in structure and 'plagued' by a damp earth-like quality which doesn't fit in well.
