Old Master Hen is a limited edition beer brewed at 7% ABV and is bottled conditioned to mature with age. Strong and full-bodied with a deep amber colour, it offers masses of characteristic toffee and fruit, notes of citrus orange, and traditional English hop bitterness.
Brewed under direction of head brewer Ross O’Hara, it is made with pale malt and 8 per cent crystal malt which gives the beer its amber colour and rich flavours. It has a big combination of all English hops to balance the malt notes: Challenger, First Gold, Fuggles, Goldings, and Pilgrim.

[50cl bottle from Morrison's, Bracknell.] A copper coloured pour with a white head falling back quickly to a scant coating; aroma of vine fruit and alcohol; smooth malty body with some caramel and a touch of spice; then a warming mellow finish with more alcohol and raisins.

So this is my 1 thousandth beer rated and ticked on this site. It's taken a while, mainly because I couldn't be bothered to add to the site for about 6 years, but I'm back in the saddle and time for a reflection. I love beer. I love it's variety, the way it changes with time and fashion. I love exploring the breweries and beer styles. I love sharing it with friends and family. I love the way it makes me feel and the sheer pleasure I get from drinking it. I love hunting down beers and breweries and the excitement of finding something new. I just love beer. Who knows how many different beers I've had during my 49 years on this planet, but way more than this. Way more. I had a 20 year old Fullers Vintage lined up to mark the occasion, but I'm on holiday and I don't have access to my beer cellar so I found this in a local Waitrose. It's a good one, rich malt, toffee, wine and a bit of Port. This is very good and very pleased to have this one for my milestone.

Sherryassosiasjoner. Mersmaken sitter som et skudd.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up From Waitrose. Pours clear penny copper with a small, foamy khaki head. Medium sweet flavour, notes of toasted mats, caramel, butterscotch, toffee, English yeast, mild leafy bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Fairly sweet finish, mellow leafy hops, toasted sugars, bready malts. Drinkable stuff.

[50cl bottle from Waitrose, Bracknell.] An impressive, elaborate cardboard box, containing a standard looking bottle. An attractive bright copper coloured pour with a rapidly fading cream head that left just a thin, patchy covering; aroma of tart apples and toffee; rich chewy apple taste, immediately releasing a hit of alcohol in the throat which makes it way quickly to the belly; leaving an aftertaste of dried figs, raisins and treacle toffee. Quite tasty, but would be better if the alcohol could be hidden.
