If you visit the General Post Office building in Dublin you can still see the bullet holes in the wall from the 1916 Easter Rising. From one Irish symbol to this one - a stout that certainly stands up well amongst the plethora that are made on the Emerald Isle. Smooth, black, good-looking, a hint of chocolate in taste. Found at the Lucky Duck in Rochdale.

Keg at Kilder, Birmingham for a new region rate. Obviously targeting the Guinness market, this is a black brew with a thick beige head. Coffee dominates, with some mocha developing and fruity notes in the background. The creamy mouthfeel is somewhat spoilt by a fine but annoyingly prickly fizz. Other than the fizz it's pretty pleasant.

On tap in Folkestone Irish bar Old High Street. Served too cold. Some chocolate some coffee flavour. Black beer lasting tan head some dry stout character some bitterness on the finish. Served too cold as its a shame as I think it could be better still liked it

On keg at Batch House, Chesterfield - opaque black body with a lasting off-white head. Roasted notes, coffee and chocolate, fairly dry and creamy at the same time. Not bad at all.

Keg draught at Tønne, Leicester. Black with a full beige/khaki head. Roasted malt aroma,a little bit of chocolate. Sweetish chocolate taste with a touch of Marmite. Body's a bit watery with low carbonation. A passable Irish stout.

On tap at Last Post, Derby. Pours almost black with a medium sized tan nitro head and good lacing. Aroma is just some hints of roasted malts – though there may have been more if I’d waited for it to warm up !. In the mouth it is sweet sooth and creamy with roasted malts again to the fore. Hints of cola and dark fruits as well. Finish is slightly sweet with traces of ash. It’s OK, but too much like Guinness for my liking.
