Cask at Butlers Bell, Stafford. Pours a slightly hazy golden amber with a small almost white head and good lacing. The aroma is slightly yeasty with autumn fruits prominent. In the mouth it is sweet with a creamy texture and some juiciness, Flavour has marmalade and some traditional hops. A little bitterness comes through later, leading to a slightly dry finish. This is reasonable , but somewhat boring – and bears no relation to a modern IPA !

Handpull cask at Alestones, Tardebigge, at 4.4%. Dark gold and clear with a small film of white head and considerable lacing. Light aroma with marmalade and a medicinal character. Sweet taste with an underpinning medicinal bitterness, which is more prominent in the long finish. Light body considering the strength of the flavour but betraying the ABV. A very basic English beer, quite nice but not overly exciting.

Warning! Early amateur rating! A fairly mild and somewhat watery IPA - a bit too Green King like.

Cask handpull at Penderal’s Oak, JDW, London. Gold with thin bubbly white head. It’s a golden bitter with decent citrus finish. Really quite drying on the finish, more than most bitters. Bit of yeast. Good lemony finish

Cask at Charlie’s Bar, Copenhagen. A golden beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is lovely flowery, while the flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of flawors as well as light notes of peaches and perfume, leading to a dry bitter finish.
