Clear dark brown pour with an average sized off-white head. Light malt aroma. The flavor is lightly sweet but this brown ale has some hops in it too. Not badly done, but not for those who are looking for a sweet one. Good body, very drinkable.

Deep dark brown coloured body, a touch muddy at the bottom with a very thick, three centimetre tall tan head that leaves a nice lace. Aroma of very light earthy hops, a nice toasted malt note, some brown sugar, raisins and a touch of light spices. Medium-bodied; Nice mix of fresh, but low alpha acid hops with a good robust malt, complete with an earthiness behind and a little sugar, as well as a touch of alcohol. Aftertaste shows some more complex and well-rounded tastes, showing mostly earth, malt and a faint hop bitterness. Overall, a nicely and well-done brown that shows good characteristics and a non-obtrusive finish. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Wegman’s in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on 22-July-2011 sampled at home in Washington on 29-September-2011.

has no one put together that this isnt a brown ale, that its a black ipa? the roasted malts and hop spiciness are a pretty clear giveaway as far as im concerned. really nice roasty-coffee flavor up front, and a nice citrusy hop twinge in the back. nice one from ipswich.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark oblique brown. Small white head, little lace. Lively carbonation. Full of sediment that you can just barely make out through the murkiness. . Flavor is lightly sweet and light to medium bitter. Tastes of malt, roast, hops, resin, light nuts, slight rye, and a hint of chocolate. This brew has a level of complexity. And as a whole, Ipswich is a fine brewery!

A dark reddish brown ale with a thin moka lacing head. In aroma, a nutty malt with light ashes, chick peas and hops. In mouth, a nicely hopped brown ale with nutty dry malts, some resinous hops in finale. Mediu, bodied. On tap at Oldsmar Tap House, Jan 4 2011.

A friendly thanks to LilBeerDoctor for this, what a great trader! Well, off the bat I’ll predict this beer rates high because of its hop bite. Sweet smell, nice head, wew. A darker beer, cloudy. Big sharp hop blast that nears IPA territory. Roasted medicinal linger at finish. Roto-tiller plowing topsoil across my tongue and down my throat. Cannot match up to East Ends Gary. Better than goose island christmas.

Pours mahogany with deep ruby red edges and thin tan head. The aroma has malt roastiness, caramel malts, earthiness and a touch of burnt malts. The taste is pretty full with some carbonation enhanced roast and malts moving into burnt malt notes and some earthiness. The burnt notes sort of lead the flavor charge with additional hints of chocolate murmuring up from time to time. After a few minutes the aroma seems to have faded away too just about nothing.

12 oz bottle...medium brown with a tan head that is weak...malts on the nose, and barely a hop...the light hoppines makes this a weak brew...just weak and easy to drink...flavors are thin malts and that inkling of hops, not for me

Dark ruby brown color... more than the average brown ale. Thick foamy off-white head. Leaves lacing. Couldn’t put finger on the aroma exactly, but it was good (everybody on this review board seems to disagree exactly what it was anyway). Bitter front to the taste, with a lot of roasted malts and a fair amount of hops. Well-balanced and very tasty.

This beer came in my beer club - I am not familiar with the brewer. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a very dark brown color with a medium sized fluffy tan head. The aroma was roasty with a light floral hop undertone. The flavor was bitter and roasty with a moderate floral hop element. The finish was longish, bitter and hoppy.
