Super hazy dark brown coloured body that is about 90% opaque with an almost non-existant head. Aroma of strong malt, toffee, peanuts, and some light spice. Medium-bodied; Strong flavour of nuts (most of all - peanuts) up front with some malt behind it along with some light spices. No bitter flavours dominate the aftertaste - just some lighter tastes and a mild sweetness on the palate. Overall, a decent beer - not much going on, but better than a lot of other Magic Hat’s, which are usually offensive in some way. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Trader Joe’s in Skyline (Bailey’s Crossroads), Falls Church, Virginia on 19-November-2005 sampled on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.

St Gootz 2006. A dark brown beer with floaties and a thick collapsing off white head. Aroma of caramel malt. In mouth, a decent dunkel, with wheat, molasse, prunes, and cloves. A bit thinner, but overall a pleasant attempt at a dunkel. Bottle bought at CJ, Potsdam, 1.49$, Feb. 2006.

This brewer has overall failed to impress me but this one was the worst of the lot. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark brown color with numerous chunks floating in it and a small brown head topping it off. The aroma is sour and tangy and fairly unpleasant. The flavor is also sour, tangy and vaguely unpleasant. There are some light elements of roasty malts and chocolate but the tangy bitter finish kills any possible enjoyment. Drain pour.

Bottle: Poured a clear dark brown color beer with a small dark head with minimal retention. Weak aroma of roasted malt is detectable. Taste is dominated by sour malt and seems to leave little place to anything else except maybe a bit of roasted malt. Not sure if this is what was intended or if I had a bad bottle but surely not something that I will revisit anytime soon.

One of the few magic hat beers I’ve had that didn’t have that "magic hat taste" - they must use a different yeast for this one, which is good - caramel and clove are in abundance, as one would expect - a bit thin, lacking the heartiness I prefer for this kind of beer - gets a bit sour toward the end.

Dark cloudy beer, light taste, somewhat characteristic of sunflower seeds. An overall acceptable beer.

On draught at Sunset Grille 9/10/2005. Had to opt out of the 22ozer and just get the pint of this and I’m glad I did. Appears unfiltered, murky, brown-bread colored with light chestnut tinges, some slight tan-beige colors on the edges. Head is large and bubbly, slighlty fizzy and collapses very quickly to a one-finger amount of bubbly foam, but is retained there. Off-white to very light beige colored. Slight, spotty lacing. Aroma of bananas, light bubble gum, almost a dry spiciness from cinnamon or nutmeg. A bit of simple sugary malt, pumpernickel or rye breadiness and a hint of dry cherries. Flavor is full-on bananas with a dose of bubble gum on the finish. Dry, exceedingly so, with a pathetic excuse for a malt body. Grainy on one hand, but then loose, fizzy and watery on the other, it dosent exactly wow me with the mouthfeel. Dull bananas, dull spiciness lingering (clove, allspice), bit of appleskins and dark berries, but there just is no maltiness here. What a shame, could have been pretty good if so.
