Named for those rugged people who work and play in the woods! This gnarly stout rises to the task, being a bit chewy and a hefty 5.8% abv, cranking plenty of Challenger and Perle hops. The perfect days end for the stump jumper in all of us. Brewed with pale, crystal, black, chocolate roasted malts, oats, flaked barley, Perle and Challenger hops.

Had this when it was Stump Jumper Gnarly Stout but also had it again with the name change as "Starry Night Stout."
Can of "Starry Night Stout" to mug.
Appearance: dark brown close to black in color with a finger's worth of off-white foamy head which dissipated fairly quick and left slight lace
Aroma: tons of roast and coffee notes. dark chocolate and mellow ashy notes
Flavor: pretty much the same as the aromas - roasty and slightly ashy sweet; finishes very dry and roasty
Texture: medium bodied; between being a sipper and being sessionable; some smoothness but plenty of dryness gripping the tongue; good carb level
Overall: if you like dry stouts then this one is for you, definitely one of the dry-est "Irish dry stouts" on the market. I'll have to remember this one for St. Paddy's Day next year.

Bomber from the brewery. Pours a clear dark red tinted brown, near black, with a thin tan head. Fair head retention. Aroma of dark fruits, roasted malt, dark chocolate. The taste is piney hops, clay, coffee, roasted malt, dark fruit finish. Thin-medium bodied, lingering bitterness.

22 oz bottle Table and Vine, West Springfield, MA. Cost $5.99. Nice frothy off-white head. Nice thick, sticky lace down my English Pint glass. Aroma has roast, bitter chocolate, and smoky wood. Taste is roast, some earthy, light bittersweet chocolate. Some charred malt as well. Very dry, with a lingering bitterness. Light smokiness. Overall, a well-made dry stout. Good flavor and very drinkable if you like dry stouts, I do! Bit above average here.

Very dark brown body with a lighter copper glow near the bottom with a nice thick three centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, light hops, anise, nuts and a bit of caramel. Medium-bodied; Deep pungent roasty malt flavours at first then shows a nice complexity of hops, then a shows a dry oaky note and a good dose of anise. Aftertaste shows a lot of caramel, some licorice and other spices and all finished off with a dry, bittering malty bite and some alcohol. Overall, a nice dry stout that shows a lot of good character and some potent bittering flavours that might be a bit too strong for some. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Liquor Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 24-July-2011 sampled at home in Washington on 30-July-2011.

Poured a deep, oily black with a creamy, lacing eggshell colored head. Looks appetizing. Nose is all malt, heavy roasted malt aroma with a hint of candy. Smells simple but inviting and mouth watering. Flavor is all roasted malt and nuts, heavy coffee finish with a velvet and chocolate texture. Very solid, but a little too simple.

2005 bottle from City Market in Burlington. Pour reveals a clear blackish brown, with no red tinges that I can make out. Head is moderate, and dark tan, but seems to recede fairly readily, leaving little lacing. Aroma is not terribly expressive, mostly roast, bitter dark chocolate, but what it does have is strength. This is one of the few dry stouts where the aroma is actually notable when the bottle is open. I didnt have to bury my nose in the snifter to get this one. Flavor - Wow, that’s dry. The light roast and bits of lactose and caramel from the nose don’t prepare me for the amount of attenuation on it. Not watery though, and a moderate carbonation. Bit of a prickly mouthfeel, all told, the dry roast not really helping. Moderate acidity, but somehow, my palate gets used to the dryness and there is some sweet malt as it warms. Finishes with lots of roast, notes of coal and tobacco, chocolate graham crackers. Hops apparency is very low. Medium body.
