Clear with some slight haze of a copper and light bronze colour with some minor movement at the bottom. Aroma of alcohol, rye, grain, metal and a lot of pungent hop notes. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong hop flavour with a bunch of rye, grain, alcohol and metal throughout with some biscuits and toast near the end. Aftertaste shows some yeast elements, but the grain and rye really show through. Overall, a pretty nice rye-based IPA with more alcohol and malt than a typical IPA, but a bit further away from an Imperial IPA than most. Still, nice and if you enjoy rye- you’ll love this. Nice to sample! I sample this 50 cL bottle purchased from Ted’s Package Store in Charlton, Massachussets on 28-July-2016 for US$4,24 sampled in my hotel room in Portland, Maine on 29-July-2016.

Pours hazy deep gold into an English pint. Soapy head with little retention recedes leaving spider lacing. Skunky resin aromas. Medium bodied with pumpernickel and skunk upfront turning to dank, bitter resin in the lasting finish.

Draught at Brick and Mortar, 7/21/15
Deep amber-marigold body shows a high clarity and a small beige head that shows low retention.
Big, bitter citrus and light caramel malts start things off. Yes, here is some very minimal tropical fruits (dry mango) but it’s overshadowed by heavy resin, yeast and astringent caramel. Alcohol is well-concealed through all of this sugar, obviously and the individual sniff isnt so bad, being floral/citrusy and with touches of mango and pine. But once it warms and you’re taking the beer in as a whole, it’s just brutally sweet. Nothing the spicy rye can do about it either.
The flavor is incredibly disappointing. Huge, astringent bitterness, heavily boiled hops and sweet, sugary, underfermented caramel and sugary white bread notes. There are certainly some delicious orange, apricot and pine notes here, but it’s just too much resin in combination with extremely worty sweetness, as is always the problem with this brewery. Couldnt finish one pint of it at the bar, having ordered nothing else.

64 oz. growler from the source. Amber/ orange color with lasting head retention in a snifter. Aroma has notes of citrus peel, grapefruit and a bit of resin as well as a rye backing. Flavor has a good amount of caramel malt and rye backing. Grapefruit and light resin and just a hint of lingering spicy rye. The bitterness is most rye notes with a mild trace of alcohol in the tail end of the sip. Almost abrasive in the finish.

Growler from Andover Liquors. Deep golden color with a decent sized off white head that dissipates quickly. Spicy earthy pine with just a hint of citrus on the nose. The flavor continues the spice but adds a bit of earthy rustic raw hop notes that clashes a bit. Bready caramel maltiness brings up the rear but is enough to provide a bit of balance. Alcohol is a bit too present for my tastes. Decent brew but the recipe or process needs just a little tweaking.
