We’ve long had a fascination & adoration of the Flanders Red style beer. Sour, but with a rounded sweetness; complex, yet effortlessly drinkable. Often described as the most wine like of all the beers, we set out to create one that has more in common with a Burgundy than a Bitter. Using our own ‘dark pale’ malt, mashed warmer than usual, we added aged hops in the boil, then aged it in red wine barrels with our own mixed culture of wild yeast and bacteria. The barrels were then blended resulting in a dark red beer with suble layers of tannins, spice, acidity, sweetness and a hint of oak.

From tap at 't Lagerhuys, Amsterdam. Aroma is tart red fruits, berries, malt, notes of balsemic vinegar. Tart and medium sour, body is medium. Solid Flanders Red!

Bottle at home in Hackney - sourced from online. Pours clear penny copper with little in the way of head, just a few fast-departing bubbles. Quite a nice beer though, with modest acetic bite, lots of tangy, leathery berries, old cherry, a little lemony acidity. Light to medium bodied with barely any carbonation. Nicely rounded finish, more tart and lightly jammy berry character, a bit of salty sweat, nips of buggy wood, alcohol, leather. Really nice, in fact.

Strawberry red wine, bright pleasant sour base beer, finishes too quickly, could use some more complexity

Bottle picked up from Hoptimism online shop. Consumed Saturday 27th January 2019 whilst cooking Steak Burritos from the Thomasina Miers Mexican cookbook. Flat as a witches tit, looks like blackcurrant cordial. Sour and tart, very tart. Not getting much sweetness despite what the description stated, red wine barrel ageing adds to this. It's a good but sadly not great beer. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov12 3.0
