Can shared in Columbus - cheers to Cloin. Pours rich brown with a creamy tan head. The nose holds burnt pine, orange peel, grapefruit. Light-meidum sweet flavour with more pithy citrus, rindy bitterness, mild cocoa, roast, rind. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes with ample rindy bitterness, baking cocoa, a little ash, pithy grapefruit. Good stuff.

Can at L6. It pours cloudy deep brown with a medium tan head. The aroma is earthy roast, toffee, perfumed, cocoa, parma violets, cocoa and roast. The taste is dry, earthy roast, charred wood, peppery spice, parma violets, caramel, toffee, burnt toast and tannin with a dry, charred finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Decent.

(440ml can from boxbeers.dk) Pours murky dark brown with a pale tan head and extensive lace. Aroma of floral, fruity hops, notes of citrus peels, melon, orange, potpourri, dark berries, very soft dusty roast malt. Flavour of oranges, grapefruit peel, dark berries, melon, grass, toasted grain, light roast, slightly powdery, lightly sweet turning to very dry with quite low bitterness. Relatively light body with somewhat high carbonation. Does not feel like a dark ale in most respects, more like a heavily attenuated pale, but the kisses of roast peek through. It's good, like a solid modern IPA. Doesn't top the best of those, but this is a solid IDA or black IPA or whatever, a style that's coming back to being the niche it should always have been.

Burk från SB. Mörk brunfärgad som går över i svart när den är upphälld. Riktigt fin arom så fort jag öppnar burken. Färska, juiciga toner packad med aromatiskt humle som drar åt ananas, apelsin, passion och mango. Snällt rostade toner i bakgrunden.

Can. Beer Ritz online. Murky, dark brown. Fully lacing, dirty beige head. Nose is a pretty awesome mix of blackcurrant, grapefruit, ripe orange and liquorice. Taste is mostly citrusy, pithy, oily bitter. Light, smokey sweetness. Medium body. Soft carbonation. Super drinkable, overall. Bitterness on the finish gets roasty and ashy, which is really the only giveaway that this is a black IPA. Nice one.

Can from Bottle Baron. Murky brown body with a medium beige head. Faint lacing. Aroma of mashed blueberry, grass and liquorice. Flavour of orange rind, grapefruit and caramel - in a blind tasting, I’m not sure if I’d identify this as a dark beer. Medium body with a frothy mouthfeel. Soft fizz. A hoppy example of the style.
