Brewed using a blend of six different malts traditional and pale malts for richness and depth chocolate and smoked malts for a distinctive flavour malted oats and roasted barley malt to enhance the finish. Based on an original Cornish recipe Mena Dhu means black hill named after the farm that was owned by Walter Hicks, the founder of St Austell Brewery a new generation stout that combines the best of the old with added complexity and refreshment.

On tap at BrewDog Bologna. Black coloured, medium sized pale brown head, caramel and light coffee nose. Light roasted malt, caramel, mild coffee, rye bread and touch of chocolate in the finish.

Creamy tan head stayed on a still black body. Sweet malt, toffee, demerara & liquorice aroma. Medium bodied, smooth, soft & a light tingly feel in the back. Liquorice, toffee, malt, demerara & roasted tastes with a long tangy finish. I like it!

Appearance is very dark, with a 1-2 finger light brown head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, caramel hints, biscuity malt. Taste is smooth chocolate, biscuity malt, coffee, hints of raisiny malt, caramel undertones, dry roasty malt. Tasty stout.

500 ml bottle conditioned, from Det Gode Brygg, Sandnes. ABV is 4.5%. Black colour, large beige head. Aroma of moderately roasted malts and smoked malts, hints of coffee and dust. Dry flavour, a hint of acidity, notes of roast malts and smoked malts again, hints of prunes and chocolate, also some coffee, a little liquorice in the finish, moderate hops.

Keg half-pint on 8th Sep 2019, in The Altlantic, St Mary's on the Silly Isles. Almost black, beige head of foam. Malty brew with a chocolate aroma and taste, some dark fruit flavours and esters too. Decent enough Stout, never seen it before in bottle, keg or cask versions.

On keg at the Totnes Brew Company. Appearance - opaque black with an olive sheen. Neat fawn head. Nose - light smoke and burnt bread with raisins. Taste - toasted fruit loaf. Molasses and honey. Palate - creamy and medium bodied. Porter like with quite a sweet finish. Overall - sweeter than expected bud decent.

My first ever cask beer. Deep brown. Decent beige head. Aroma: dark malts, prune, dried fruit, dark chocolate. Flat to soft carbonation. Taste: medium dry, toast and a little roasted barley. Chocolate, coffee. Brittsh hops. Very decent.

Keg at Tornes Brew Co/Barrel House. Floral chocolate aroma. Dark and glossy. Creamy beige head. Sweet and creamy before some coffee bitterness appears - there's a particular coffee flavoured chocolate I can't remember the name of. Underlying sour coffee berries. Light. On the thin side. Lifted by soft carbonation. Dry finish with a hint of astringency. Slips down like... erm... thin velvet. Best beer of the night which isn't perhaps saying much.
