Sour Fruits + Wild Yeast + Refreshing Zing

Think of throwing ripe fruit against a dry stone wall on a hot summer’s day and deeply inhaling.

It’s zesty and pithy, with grapefruit and orange peel and a wraparound fullness. A grapefruit zing in the glass, some acidity and a farmyard earthiness.

The Amuse has been aged in wonderful Burgundy Chardonnay barrels, the acidity of the beer not disimilar to that of the wine that was previously aged in them.

Bottled (Spontaneous KSMT tasting). Hazy golden colour witha small white head. Aroma is toffee, some sour wood with mild ripe fruitiness. Flavour is very much sour wood with some citrus, mild herbs and spicy notes along with some slight yeasty notes. The sourness in the flavour came quite much by surprise, the aroma didn’t give much of a warning here.

330ml bottle from Hemelvaart Bier Cafe, Bedale. Hazy yellow colour, fizzy white foam head and aroma of lemony citrus rind, grain, yeasty funk. Taste is vinegar sour, citric fruity, lemon zest, grains, barnyard with yeast, hay & biscuit notes. Fairly smooth mouthfeel, light to medium bodied, fine carbonation, dry tangy sour finish. Nicely drinkable.

Keg at the MTB/Takeover, CBC St Giles, 28/02/15. Hazed orange with a moderate off white covering that dissipates quickly to nyadda. Nose is tarte peach, citric rinds, apricot pangs, straw, light funk. Taste comprises damp straw, more apricot plunder, mango, passionfruit, a very tropicana forward sour, light acidic strokes. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, zingy citrics in a very lightly puckered close. Solid refreshing sour, pretty simple but solid throat tickling stuff. Much better than the bottled version I’d had a month previously and not got round to rateing.

On tap at Craft Covent Garden. Cloudy orange gold no head. Good fruit on this. Some white wine melon apricot even. Not exactly authentic funk but not overtly lactose either. Decent

330ml bottle. Pours like a cider, a bit fizzy but no head, cloudy yellow. Sour fruit aroma, sour taste which softens the further down I get
