Bottle pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma is coffee and roast with hints of bitter nuts. Flavor is big and toasty with coffee and chocolate malts. Really good beer.

12oz bottle courtesy of one of my coworkers. Poured a dark brown color with a foamy off-white head. Aroma was chocolate, roasted malts, touch of hops. Flavor was creamy malts and chocolate, touch of hops. Wish I could get this one around here.

Sample at the Horror Movie Marathon on 10/23/10. This beer is a dark brown color with a medium beige head that dissipates steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. Toasted malt and chocolate in the nose. Medium body with flavors of roasted coffee, chocolate and caramel malt. The finish is malty with a lightly bitter coffee aftertaste. Decent brew overall.

12 oz. bottle. Left by mowz after our impromptu beer tasting. Pours a nice deep brown with red highlights, some fizzy foam that settles to a thin layer of whitish bubbles. Smell brings lots of coffee to mind, more likely because I remember my only other Central Waters beer, the Peruvian Morning. Augh! ’Scuse me, I just sniffed some right up my nose. Okay. Taste brings in some of that chocolate they talk about above, but quite bitter, with the coffee notes included. In fact, a bit of "stale stout" sourness. This is much more of a stout than a porter, I think. But the malt is a bit sticky for a 5.5% beer, and the hops start to kick in halfway down. Some Centennial and Cascade if I’m not mistaken. And it’s likely I am mistaken, but oh well. Pretty solid, perhaps overly bitter.

12 oz bottle purchased at Four Firkins in St Louis Park, Minnesota. Bottled on APR notched on the label. Pour is a slight haze brown auburn with a foamy one inch tan head. Aroma dusty leafy roast, some tobacco and a pine element in the back. Taste is the roast up front, turning to the bitter pine in the middle finishing with more of the dry hop bitterness. The ash tobacco is present in the back, and lends some depth. Straightforward, but well executed hoppy porter. Palate is medium to thin, active carbonation and the dry finish. Nice one.

Bottle @ J.C.G US Tasting, Pt 3. Pours dark ruby brown with a small creamy head and lacings. Nose is vague roast and chocolate. Flavor is ashy and roasted. Medium bodied.

Appearance: This one pours a brown color with a white head
Flavor: The taste is nutty and roasted in flavor, it is quite malty
Palate: This one started a bit thin, but grew more robust as it warmed, somewhat creamy too
Overall Impression: This is my first rating from Central Waters Brewery. At first I thought this beer was a bit on the thin side, but really it just needed some time to warm to reach its peek. This was a very solid porter.

2008 Bottle thanks to mar. Label was upside-down for some reason. Pours a dark, murky brown color with a wispy off-white head. Aroma of chocolate mud-pie, soot and Oreo. Taste is dirt coffee, chocolate and bitterness. Creamy mouthfeel that finishes dry.

Dark brown color, hazy. Caramel and chocolatey beer, quite strong bitterness; some nutty aroma; good body strength; in the end there is also enough roasted malt. It may be not bad, but it’s a bit infected, with some sourness.
