Like the universe itself this brew is dark and tranquil in appearance, but once you delve in, its chaotic intensity really hits. It’s a trip across the palate; sour, hoppy & malty bringing balance to The Force.

330 ml bottle, from Ales By Mail. ABV is 7.5%. Nearly black colour, moderate to small beige head. Aroma of roast malts, chocolate, sour fruits / berries and moderate lactic acid. The flavour has the same elements as the aroma, the acidity is moderate. Very moderate hops. IPA? Nothing IPA-like here. Still a nice and refreshing beer to drink.

330ml bottle. Darkest brown colour with average, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Earthy, dark fruity, slightly citrusy hoppy and chocolately, dark malty aroma, notes of red and dark berries, bramble, lingonberry, cranberry & more, some lime, dark chocolate. Taste is mildly tart, chocolately dark malty and fruity, slightly citrusy, hints of lime, dark and red berries, cranberry, hints of brambel, blackcurrant, lingonberry, subtle sweetness; full body, soft palate, very fine but efficacious, refreshing carbonation. Neither really weird nor chaotic, but a bit unoriented - slightly too heavy and complex for a simple, refreshing summer Ale, already too far away from a real Black IPA, not as deep and complex as a high end Sour Ale. A very nice and quite unique beer nevertheless.

330ml bottle shared @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, May '19. Thanks Mike for this. Pours deep cola brown, frothy tan topping. Taste has a sour tang, cola, roast.. kind of a clash of flavours really. Didn't mind it, but wouldn't say this combo works for me.

26th May 2019, Shrewsbury Beer Share Meeting in Chez Sophie; five of us. Cheers Mike for bringing a 330ml bottle for us all. He knows I don't like sour beers, but I had my fifth of my first and last ever (hopefully) Sour Black IPA. Black cherries came to mind (sour ones, obviously) as I shuddered my way through this beer. Scored objectively.

Mørk brun med lavt beige skum. Lukter noe kaffe, sure bær, men alt for lite av det. Lett. Noe surbitter smak, sitrus, mørk sjokolade, noe salt lakris og sure bær. Kort+

Black, tart and hoppy. Three words that consumes it all. Mat The Force be with you. More sour than hoppy in m universe, and not for the fait hearted. Chaos for some, relaxing and enjoyable for others. Go get it son. (well my son would not….)

330ml bottle from Vinmonopolet Langnes. Slowly fading off-white head leaving crocheted lacing on the glass. Deep rustic coloured body. Interesting aroma of dark berry skins and bread-like malts. Fine blended taste of blackcurrant, wood, some dark malts, and dark fruits. Berry skins to the ending. Fine bodied. Rather successful experiment. Like it. (Tromsø 17.11.2018).
