dark red/amber color. right off the bat, I can smell the alcohol, with a touch of caramel, and malt. flavour is rich, and malty, with some caramel in there. A nice offering, one of their better beers for sure.

Picked this one up at my LCBO. A well-done malty beer can really hit the spot. And this is one of those. Lovely rosy brown, decent head. Nose is all rich malts, toasted goodness, with some molasses. The taste is similar. Lots, and lots of malts in there. Smooth toasted flavour with some sweetness to add a little balance. Solid brew.

Bottle from the brewery. Pours a clear dark reddish brown with a minimal off white head that fades quickly. Bready nose with caramel, vanilla and hints of coffee and dark fruit. Lightly sweet molasses and honey over a background of light plum and smoke with a very light bitterness which dries the finish a bit. Medium light creamy mouth with soft carbonation; a little bit thinner than expected.

Pint at the Arrow & the Loon. Pours a deep amber colour, almost copper. Warm cap and not much lacing. Aromas of dates and caramel. The mouthfeel is wet, not syrupy. The taste is so mild, it feels like a light beer. The dates and other dark fruits are present, with some mild hops. Hints of caramel and apples in the finish. Not bad, but lacking the attack of a Wee Heavy.

Bottle: Poured a clear copper color ale with a relatively large foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma consists of caramelized malt with light unrefined grainy notes. Taste is also dominated by caramelized malt which is dryer then I was expecting with light unrefined grainy notes which are more or less pleasant. Body is a bit lighter than average for style with good carbonation. A bit too dry for the style with slight unrefined grainy notes makes this less enjoyable than expected.

Pretty dam well done for style, and Im not usually partial to style. Smells nice and malty. Colour brown, red in light. Some definite whisky and oak in aroma. Taste is malty bitter. Medium carbonation. Tap at The Rhino.

As Wee Heavy: A lightly hazed brown ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, a musty nutty aroma, with caramel, light off notes. In mouth, a nice caramel malt with off notes. 6.75$ for a pint, Smokeless Joe’s, Oct. 30 2011.
