Super dark red pour, huge fluffy, sticky off white head.
Lovely citrus aroma, big notes of pine, and some sticky chewy malts. The hops are pungent, and sticky, and quite bitter. the mouthfeel is sticky, and thick, the carbonation is a little low and soft. the finish is highly bitter, big notes of grassy, citrucy hops. The malts are thick with caramel, and bread. A big hoppy red ale, nice stuff.

Thanx Phil.
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a deep dark red color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a minute. Light lacing pervaded throughout the glass.
The smell had a decent intriguing dark roasted caramel maltiness with a light toffee and alcoholic nuttiness.
The taste took those flavors and combined extremely nicely.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a sessionability about it that was there. The carbonation was fairly subdued but still good for the style.
Overall, pretty good American Strong Ale I’d have again.

Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of deep sweet caramelized malt with some earthy and piney hops. Taste I also dominated by some sweet caramelized malt with light unrefined notes with some citrus and piney hops. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Too much residual sugars for my taste but still enjoyable.

A collaboration of two great Canadian breweries with funky labels, and big on hop. Loads of dark fruits nose at first pour. Clean copper colour with a frothy light beige head, great retention and thick-creamy lacing. After breathing, aromas of grass come out with tamari notes and caramel. Goes down nicely with not much burning and not too heavy. Kind of wet with a slight dry finish. The taste is hoppy as well with some bitterness from the grass, overpowering the malts. Pine and citrus flavours with hints of other exotic fruits appearing with time. Hard to believe this is close to 10% ABV as it feels like a regular American IPA mixed with a light red ale.

(bottle) clear reddish brown colour with a small brown head; aroma of fruit, dried longans; big hoppy flavour with a long strong bitter finish; it is more of an imperial IPA than anything else

(Draught at Brydens, Toronto, Sept 6 2013) Pours a very deep brownish ruby, clear with a small, short-lived off-white head that left a fair bit of lace. Aroma hits with fruity hops up front - tropical fruit/tree fruit character with some citrus, sweet, rich malt behind, some pine/earth bitterness as well for balance. Palate is reasonably rich at first, again with tropical fruit/citrus hops and a lot of sweet, complex malts and a chunk of pine resin bitterness. Mid-palate I thought the fruit character was more malt-driven, cherry/plum in addition to the tropical/peach from the hops, and the sweetness comes to the fore more. In the finish the bittering hops take over to cut that sweetness some and the aftertaste is not barleywine-big, with pine/citrus/malt still lingering a bit. Palate is fairly full and quite sticky, soft carbonation, booze is really well hidden with maybe just a slight dryness on the finish, but something made this very slow-sipping and heavy-hitting anyway. Really good though, complex malt character really well-paired with the hops, doesn’t sit easily in any style and all the better for it.

On Tap and a bottle from Flying Monkeys. Pours a deep deep clear red with a generous beige head that leave significant lace. Nose is caramel and pine and plums and cherry. Plenty of hop bitterness but balanced with a big malt backbone and a mixture of fruit notes. Body is medium to heavy and quite creamy with soft carbonation. Sampled this on tap at the brewery and had to bring a couple of bottles home.

A reddish copper ale with a thick mocha head. In aroma, sweet pungent caramel malt with resinous and catty hops, and faint sulfur. In mouth, a nice pungent treacle malt with light menthol and resinous citrusy hops, well made.
