Bottle from the Real Ale Store, Newark. Dark brown, bordering on black. Completely opaque with a small cream-coloured head. Salted caramel, burned wood, black Sambuca, treacle, touches of yeast extract. Bittersweet taste with salt liquorice to the fore, heady alcohol burn in the finish with a harsh roasted bitterness. Blackberries and burnt toast in the finish. Intense and delicious.
