Simplicity is beautiful. While France presents us with some of the most exquisite pastries of the world, it was pain au chocolat that inspired us. What is not to love? It's fluffy, luxurious and leaves space to truly taste the star of the show: chocolate. Simple yet rich, just like the beer it inspired. A straight forward, yet rich and thick beer, layered with Tanzania selected cocoa nibs. But this is no ordinary choco stout. To add the complexity we love, and to deepen the cacao notes, we incorporated generous amounts of different rye malts. Giving the beer a velvety base, with a slight spicy character. Can. Black pour with a beige head. Nose is big cacao, some rye, low roastiness and an earthy touch. Taste is also heavy on the cacao, rye’s less apparent, it’s got some molassess and earthy touches as well. Thick, chewy bodied with soft to average carbonation, feels thicker than the ABV would suggest. Nice, if a bit simple.

Can. Black color with beige head. Aroma is cocoa, decent roast, solid black chocolate. Taste is the same, black chocolate, just mildly roasty here, not too sweet, good balance, nice drinkability. Oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Nice!

Panda thanks to Cloin: Poured a black with a khaki colored head. Aroma is sweet, chocolate, roasted malts, very rich. Taste is rich roasted malts, chocolate, coffee.

440 ml can. Pours a very dark brown with full tan head. Aromas of dry chocolate, trail mix/dried dark fruit, and roasted malts. Flavors of roasted malts, ashy chocolate, and dry dark fruit.

Panda 🐼 at home big thanks to Colin for this one. A oily brown coloured pour with a whispy dark tan head. Aroma is semi sweet, meaty roast, liquorice, tangy dried fruit, apple, christmas cake. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, oily, dark , tangy dark berry, woody, woody apple, Palate is semi sweet, oily, light tang, mellow carbonation. Good.

Can at home, from HOTM online, 22/12/22. Pitch black with a big old lasting khaki head. Nose is cacao nibs, dusty fruits, mellow roast, charr, spice, light ashen notes. Taste comprises dark chocolate, dried fruit rinds, roasted bite, charr, toffee, dates, light spice, hint of cherry tobacco. Medium plus bodied, fine massaging carbonation, light drying close. Decent easy drinking Impy stout ... fairly subtle and nuanced and maintains a good bitter balance without much in the way of sweetness.
