Our punchy, dark milk stout pays homage to one of Islington’s most famous residents ‘Edith Garrud’. Not only was she one of the first female professional martial arts instructors in the western world, but is also famed for training the 30-strong bodyguard of the Suffragette movement in jujutsu, thereby helping them to protect against police arrest.

Cask at the Brewpub. Opaque black - brown beer, good mid tan head. Palate is airy and a little soft. Very modest fine carbonation. Mild and sweetish dark malts. A little lactose like vibe here. Mild earthy coffee. Whisper of something dark and fruity. Airy finish. Very easy going and pretty suppable,

Cask at B&K, Islington on 25th October 2014. Ink-black with pale tan shallow foam and scant lacing. Roasty aroma with spices and maltiness. Sweet, roast malts in-mouth with tangy grape and citrus. A bitter late finish with sweet background. Solid body for strength, but light mouthfeel affording easy drinking.

Cask at the brewpub, 22/10/14. Light black with a good sized tan covering that refuses to part company. Nose is earthy roast, coca rubs, dark fruit peel. Taste comprises dark fruit rinds, leather, tobaccco, spice, chocolate tinges. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, roasty tones in a lightly drying close. Decent enough cask stout.

Cask at the brewpub - London. Pours dark brown with a foamy beie head. The nose has lots of milk chocolate, general dark malt charagyer, soft roast. Medium sweet flavor with sugary darkened toast, further milk chocolate, lacto sugars, very slight ashy bitterness. Light to medium bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes with more milk chocolate, some burnt wood, dark berries, cocoa, toasted sugars. Simplistic sure, but not bad overall and quite drinkable.
