Bottle from Beer Shop Hitchin. Persuaded by my brother to start my home built beer advent calendar tonight because apparently the 31st is the start of advent. Who knew? Anyway, this isn't part of the official calendar, but its a good place to start. Great colour and this is all about the rich malts. Maybe a bit too cold from the garage, I mean cellar, but as ever with this brewery its really good.

29th December 2023
Bright clear deep amber - red beer with a small pale tan head. Smooth palate, mildly dry, good fine carbonation coming through on the back end. Smooth malts, a mild creamy sweetness and a clear and pleasing toffee caramel. Soft but fairly rich ripe generic fruits on the back end along with a little floral ripe fruits. All comes together very well indeed.

From cask at the Purple Dog winter beers festival, Colchester. Pours mid brown with a very small bubbly off-white head. Aroma of toffee, nut, malt, dark fruit and a touch of golden syrup and molasses. Mefium sweetness, light bitterness, very slight sour edge. Medium body, oily texture, soft to flat carbonation.

Cask at Land of Liberty Peace and Plenty, Chorleywood, Herts. A mahogany coloured pour with a medium beige head on top. Fruity, malty aroma. Tastes malty, fruity, bitter and dry. Hard work to be honest.

Cask at the Golden Lion, Rochford, Essex on 21st December 2012. Deep copper with off-white head and lacing bands. Pungent aroma with spices and berry fruits. Citric hoppiness in-mouth, with spices and smokiness. Tangy somewhat smoky and fruity finish, and a zingy mouthfeel.

Cask Handpump at Far From the Madding Crowd, Oxford 20-12-07 Chestnut in colour, fierce fruity bite to this beer, malts are present but pushed aside by the crisp bitter fruity bite, lovely!
