750ml swing top job. Labelled up Lacons Heritage Range Old Nogg. Gyle 1780 brewed 31/5/18. Baker and Larners, Holt. Wow, like the “aged” IPA recently, this is a stunner. Moderate haze on a deep chocolate brown. Super dense sticky swirl of lasting shiny beige foam. That’s a 5 from me. Nose has raisins. Coconut character (according to the missus). Cocoa. Some woody notes (maybe been in barrels since it was brewed). Hint of pine sap. Taste is semi sweet up front with an earthy woody bitterness. Super smooth and silky easy drinking. Fine rolling carbonation. Robust bitterness to awesome. Lovely gear. Another of these beers I wish I’d snagged a case of.

Cask at GBBF '18, day 1, 07/08/18. Light black with a decent beige covering. Nose is fruit cake, treacle toffee, liquorice, spice, brown bread. Taste comprises dried fruits, light cocoa sprinkle, dusty fruits, toffee, nutty, dark malts. Medium bodied with bite, soft carbonation, semi drying close with a little warming nip of alcohol. A really solid and flavoursome cask beer ... would love to sip this by a fireplace in the winter months!
