Our region is an international bird airport with migrations from Africa to the Zwin every year. But one swallow does not a summer make. So, drink two.

‘Zwaluw’ is grassy, fruity and bitter, with rye malt delivering a body to defy its low ABV and a heavy dosing of Amarillo in dry hop to equip it with a stone-fruit and citrus juiciness. Hops: amarillo, hallertau mittelfrüh, yeast: english ale, EBC: 05.

Bottled. Golden colour with a small white foamy head, which leaves some lace. Aroma is tropical fruits, some spiciness, mild rye with some grassy bitterness. Flavour is spicy yeastiness, some sweet bready malts and quite grassy and floral hops. A bit thin as for the palate, but otherwise quite nice.

Bouteille 33cl, BB 28/05/2021, lot# ZW/012-013.

Bottled 330ml (Beermerchants, BB 08/2019)
Golden colour, medium-sized white head. Sweet lychee, pineapple aroma. Light-bodied. Very crisp carbonation. Pale malts, aggressive spicey hops and rye spiceyness combine. Refreshing but low ABV makes this mineral watery.

16 March 2019. At De Snuffel, Bruges. Cheers to Ian & Maarten! Pours clear pale golden with a lasting, foamy, white head; some lacing. Aroma of grapefruit peel, yellow apple, unripe mango & apricot, lemon zest, freshly cut grass, honey, weird salty note too. Taste is light fruity sweet, very restrained though, notes of apple peel, apricot & pear, quickly turning medium hoppy bitter with grapefruit peel, mango, a tad grassy & spicy, yeast & bread as well as a sourish lemon accent in the back. Dry, quite bitter, resinous hoppy finish, lingering grass & bitter fruit. Medium body, slick texture, lively carbonation - a bit too much, impairing my taste a bit, otherwise quite good at that ABV.
