Brewed with Oats, Black and Chocolate malts, EKG, Fuggles and Columbus hops, Pirate Life Stout is perfect for the cooler months. The malts take centre stage with a cacophony of coffee, chocolate and sticky date pudding and a rich creamy mouthfeel thanks to the oats. Columbus smacks the palate with a healthy dose of bitterness while late additions of EKG and Fuggles lend a gentle, earthy spiciness to the beer.

500ml can into tulip. Can left outside on a cold night in Sydney. Super dark beer with tan-coloured head. Nose is cocoa powder and milk chocolate. Smooth mouthfeel with a little tingly zinginess. Finish is bitter at first followed by dried dark fruit which lingers like aged cake. Seems very light for 7.1 %, interesting stout.

From a 500ml can on 20/6/2017. Pours near black with a big tan head which disappears. Has a light roasty chocolate aroma. It begins with some sweet chocolate and a hint of coffee, which is met by a distinct and lingering roasty bitterness. Full bodied with average carbonation. Well made and very tasty.

Can. Black with a tan head. Aroma of mocha - mainly bitter chocolate - fudge, prunes, raisins, green chile? Silky texture, medium bodied. More obviously oaty with nice chocolate and rather less dried fruit than suggested by the aroma. Bitterness is quite strong an comes a little early for me with some spices and that green chile. A few problems but a lot going for it. 7473 14

Tried at the Strait and Narrow, Lincoln. Just off black colour with a thin tan head. Aroma thick molasses and roasted malt. Taste is rich roasted malt toffee and chocolate. A touch cold and gassy maybe but rich and full flavour.
