Purchased locally.

It pours from 12oz bottle a very dark brown with reddish hues and has a 1 finger head of tannish foam with some lacing.

The smell is of roasted malt, some chocolate, and some caramel.

The taste has roasted malt up front followed by notes of chocolate and some citrus. Hmm...I don't think the citrus is a welcome addition for me in this OS. Things were tasting pretty good until that "sourness" from the citrus hit my taste buds. Still, it's not bad. It finishes with a roasted malt bitterness, it has a medium mouthfeel, and the carbonation is medium. I'm still shaking my head over that weird sourness that *does" mellow down a bit further into the session.

Re-rate - draft: Dark brown pour with a thin, cremy tan head. Roasty and cocoa aroma, dark chocolate and roasty taste. Rich. No real bitterness. Silky mouthful.

12oz bottle. Opaque black with a respectable beige head. Sweet and pungent chocolate aroma. Lots of lacto oatmeal flavors, slightly sour and pungent but very drinkable. This is a really well done version of the style, capturing those sweet nuances while remaining drinkable and refreshing. Some crispness up front, but quickly fades into malty chocolate sweetness. Well done.

Pitch black coloured body with a very large light brown head that seems to last and last. Aroma of prunes, plums, raisins, roasted malt and plastic wrap. Medium-bodied; Strong metallic and bloody flavours running strong up front followed by bitter malt, roasted nuts and a light spiceyness. Aftertaste is completely bittered - nice on the palate with little else going on. Overall, a decent beer, I was expecting a bit more from this one, but not a horrible choice, ESPECIALLY in the south midwest. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Joe’s Place in Norman, Oklahoma on 27-March-2007.

This stout was sour. The English influence is perceptible but I am not sure if the sourness was intentional or an infection. Either way it works. The palate is smooth and the beer is on the thick side. Some malt and roasted flavors. An inexpensive session beer.

Bottle pours a very dark redish brown black with a coarse foamy shot lived head. Blocky spotty lacing. Aroma is chocolate, soy, dark roasted malts and light grape notes with dark pitted fruits as well. Flavor is a bit sweet and fruity. Again, like purple grapes and soft smokey campfires. Later the burnt wood and charcol notes comethrough. Rather light feel and a bit thin. Aftertaste is just trace campfire smokiness again. A tasty light/medium weight stout. Thanks KenB

Thanks to my secret santa for this - very dark brown with poor head retention - syrupy sweet aroma, with heaps of chocolate malt and some sour lactic stuff hanging out in the back - thin and somewhat sour - hints of wood, oatmeal and cherry - mouthfeel reminds me of cola, making me feel like I’m drinking a soda that’s gone bad rather than a beer - overall drinkable, but I wouldn’t have it again if it passed my way.

A deep red beer with a bubbly brown head. The aroma is sweet roasted with definate notes of the oatmeal, as well as light notes of chocolate. The flavor is sweet malty and very roasted with light notes of oatmeal, leading to a dry roasted end.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Pours a clear, dark mahogany with a reddish hue. Creamy, light brown head leaving some laces. Aroma of hard roasted malt. Medium-bodied, plenty of roasted malt and a rather high malt sweetness. Vaguely burned, ashy edge. But quite nice really. 150506

Forward aroma, light roast and ash-char, burnt wood, a touch of chocolate, some green olive too. Not quite opaque, showing garnet when held to the light. Smallish head, light carbonation. Roasted flavors, lightly acrid with a dry ashy-char finish, and just a kiss of hops. Nice combination of astringency and soft full palate, common to oatmeal stouts.
