Can from Filet & Vine, Montgomery. Aroma is pure watermelon juice with some bready caramel malt. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and light bitter. Body is light. Bit too sweet and too heavy on the watermelon.

Can purchased in St. Pete, FL. Pours a hazy yellow color with a white head and fair retention. No lacing. Tart grainy aroma. All-around light beer: Light beer flavor with a light, tart artificial watermelon flavor and a light body. Soft mouthfeel. Nothing bad, but nothing to seek out either.

Somehow less inspiring than the original, Watermelon EDB lacks the modest sour gose notes of its cousin, instead coming across mostly as a watery watermelon pilsner. Malts provide a corn-laced sweetness, and the yeasty tartness is limited to hanging around way, way off in the periphery. The melon adds a noticeable rind-laced sweetness to the backbone, yet never grows prominent, mostly lurking around the finish and fade. Nose suggests the beer’s far more gose-like than it is, and the pour is rather blah, clear yellow but fizzy and lacking much head or lace. Texture’s good for summer beer, but there’s far better melon summer beers to be found. (Anderson Valley’s Salty Melon Gose comes to mind.)
