Every now and then you try a bitter that blows you away. Gravity cask at the Real Ale Classroom, Stoneygate. Reddish-brown, tranlucent, flat. Wood, strawberry jam, atrong tea in the aroma. Taste gives a sweetness with a jammy note, followed by a far drier finish. Thin body without much carbonation, but it allows me to comcentrate on the flavours dancing on my tongue: woody and slightly astringent notes with some savoury cooking herb in the aftertaste. Superb.

Cask handpull at The Lifeboat Margate. Clear amber colour lasting white head. Black pepper aroma some malt too. Great England bitter aroma. Some toffee in the mouth. Then dry finish. Herby English hop finish. Sone peppery hop finish. Like Rocket salad but toffee throughout too. I liked it. Very creamy pour.

Cask at the Bell, Waltham St Lawrence. An amber pour with a loose white head; leafy hop aroma; dry biscuity taste with a touch of citrus; and a grassy, herbal bitterness. A straightforward, old-fashioned bitter.
