A deep dark black ipa with a thick frothy brown head. In aroma, loads of piney floral hops and orange pulp, catty notes, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet chocolate malt with light licorice, piney hops, orange pulp, catty notes, light soy sauce, very nice. On tap at End of Everything beer fest Dec 22 2013.

Bottle at Bruce’s, thanks to Ken. It pours very dark brown with a small tan head. The nose is roasted malt, treacle, liquorice, sweet candy, chocolate, pine, cake and paint stripper. The taste is mild roast, alcohol, toast, charred wood, treacle, liquorice, cocoa, stickiness, dull bitterness and earth. Full body, moderate carbonation and viscous mouth-feel. More like and impy stout really, but decent nonetheless.

Tasting at Bruce’s pad. Opaque dark brown beer, little pale tan head. Soft palate, semi dry and with modicum of fine carbonation. Odd nose, slight paint thinner and chemicals. doesn’t carry over to the flavour! Soft and dry dark malt. not roasty but it is slightly bitter. Touches of dark chocolates and nuts. Finishes semi dry with a trace of coffee and mild piney hops. Drinks like an Imperial Stout and not a Black IPA but it generally hides the alcohol pretty well.

Bottle at Bruce’s, London. Cheers to Kenny! Pours deep brown with a creamy beige head. Some dark fruits in the nose, mild roast, grapefruit. Medium to big sweet flavor, charred wood and earth bitterness, grapefruit and orange, definitely some alcohol, baking cocoa. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Moderate warmth to finish, decent resins, charred bread, wood, burnt pine, some dry cocoa, toasted grass, some grapefruit. Pretty nice stuff. Drinks well for the strength.

Draft at the 2012 Michigan Brewer’s Guild Winter Beer Festival, Grand Rapids. Dark black body, thin ochre head. Sharp citrusy nose. Boozy citrus and pine; resinous, with a pungent, sweet fruitiness. Bitter but not overdone. Catty. Complex hops profile. Very good.

On tap at Bangers & Lace. Pours black with a very light brown head that dissipates to the edges and laces nicely. Aroma has a nice earthy pine note with a bit of backing roast and dark grain. Flavor has some earthy dark grains up front with a nice musty pine note. Drinkable considering abv...
