Bottle: Poured a deep amber color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of toffee and caramelized malt with light oak notes with dry hops notes. Taste is a mix of caramelized malt with light toffee notes, some oak notes and some light residual sugar notes. Body is about average for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol notes. Pretty good barleywine that should be brewed on a more regularly basis.

(650mL 2012 bottle from the brewery, further ~10mo cellaring) Pours a hazy deep amber with a moderate off-white head, lingers a little with lace. Aroma has toffee, marmalade and pale pit fruit jam, a little raisin, wood, something verging on an off note (sulfur?), a bit of floral/herbal hop and toast. Taste is fruity caramel malt dominated and sweet at first, preserved berry and apricot, some floral/herbal hop character. Dries out a little from mid-palate on, woody notes more prominent, fairly light hop bitterness, sweet fruity malt core remains. Some alcohol on the finish really dries it out. Slightly astringent on the aftertaste. Medium bodied so light for a barley wine, oily, moderate carb. English-style, fruity, light hop character. Definitely not the biggest, punchiest barley wine but it’s a nice sipper all the same. Sweetness at the start fairly well-quelled by the finish

A lightly hazed orange amber barleywine with a thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with light vinous notes, faint sulfur, and catty hops. In mouth, a sweet fruity caramel malt with light licorice, sulfur, catty hops, alcohol warmth, no oak detected though. OttBottShare Dec 15 2013.
