Bottled. Yellowish golden colour, small creamy white head. Aroma is fruits, herbs and some mild grassy notes. Flavour is fruity, floral, rather bitter hoppy with some slight spicyness as well. Balanced and refreshing.

Bottled at the brewpub. Hazy deep golden, small head. Somesalt and tangerine. Light-medium bodied with clean mouthfeel. Salty and hoppy with long resiny bitterness. Some interesting hops, but a bit clean.

14th October 2011 Hazy amber beer, good white head. Lovely mango, pineapple and tropcial fruits nose. Light palate, a little crisp and a littl dry. Minerals. Bitter grassy hops with just a trace of tropical fruits underneath. Fair bit of yeasty sweetness in the mid. Whisper of pineapple cubes in the dry finish. Strong grassy bitter aftertaste. Alright but a bit bitter.

Right then, near 13 years later.... just a mild haze on this gold beer, small but tidy pale cream colour head. Fairly smooth start to the palate, a very mild dryness, good fine minerally carbonation coming through on the back end. Light pale malts, whisper of grain in a nice way, a light sweetness. Ella a very different prospect now, like Galaxy, the strident bitterness seems to have been bred out of em. Light cooling pine into mellow but decent generic hop fruit that is very slightly more tropical than anything else. Smooth finish. Hmm, with so many new fabulously punchy hops around, I can't quite help but wonder if Ella will be around in another 13 years.

Bottle at home in London with Lyoli. Pours hazy, golden-orange with a small, white head. Orange citrus aroma, some faint grass. Great balanced flavor, medium sweet, lots of citrusy bitterness, zesty, some toasty sugar, orange rind. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Fairly dry, earthy finish, light pine, some citrus. Great beer.

Bottle at the Kernel Brewery. It pours light orange, with a thin white head. The nose is varnish, pine, tangerine, orange, grapefruit and petrol. The taste is lemon, lime pith, orange, grapefruit, pine, resin, leather and an odd spicy note, with a long bitter-dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not my favourite of the Kernel pale ales, but still of a very high standard.
