Rutland Beast is strong yet exceptionally balanced. Dark earthy brown in colour, it’s fantastic flavours blend together to produce a mind blowing great beer.

Brewed using a combination of seven different malts and wheats, as well as three classic hop varieties, Rutland Beast is a true animal. Regarded as the ‘Bigger Brother’ of the Rutland Panther, the Beast is rarely spotted around these parts, but is a spectacular sight when seen.

Cask at the Old Manor (JDW), Bracknell. A dark chestnut pour with a tight cream head; nutty aroma with some well roasted malts in the background; silky smooth in the mouth with a creamy toffee taste and a hint of earthy chocolate malt; then a light spicy bitterness before a satisfying syrupy finish. Excellent.

Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Poured a crystal clear reddish amber with a bubbly off white head. The aroma is red berry fruit, light malt, light hop. The flavour is light sweet, light bitter, with a sticky sweet raspberry malt, light bitter hop palate. Medium bodied with flat carbonation.

Intense malty. The mainpart is malty, fresh-intense, fruity smooth. Slightly roasted in the aftertaste, malty with bitter hints. Great!

Cask at The Standing Order. Pours clear dark amber with a thin beige head. One of the lightest stouts I’ve seen for a while! Aromas of toffee and stewed dark stone fruit. Taste is light bitter. Creamy texture. Not bad.

Cask @ CAMRA NWAF ’14. Pours a dark ruby brown. Scent of mulled spice and savoury herbs. Malty sweet taste, heavy on the herbiness. Not great, started out ok but got very sickly very quickly.

Cask at the Rupert Brooke, Rugby, 17/04/13. Mahogony brown with a good sized beige head that retains well. Good lacing ensues. Nose is dark malt, very light roast, toffee, touch of smoke. Taste is malt forward, dark toffee fudge, sugars, mineral notes, barley, dark fruits, biscuit. Medium bodied with soft carbonation, smooth and plesant on the palate. Decent enough fayre, but coming over as more of an ESB to me than a stout.

Cask at NWAF, 2011. Brown pour with a beige head. Raisins, pear, red apples and peach in the nose. Very fruity. Crisp apple bite in the flavour, definitely an orchard fruit feel to it. Unsurprisingly a fruity finish.
