Classic robust porter: black and creamy, with a heady mix of rich caramel and coffee. This is light on the hops in order to allow the malt to take charge.

The creamy head on its very dark appearance makes this relatively standard but tasty porter very good looking. The enjoyment is best in its mildly chocolatey subtly roasted aftertaste.

Cask at Bird in Hand, Stafford. Pours almost black with a small foamy cream head. There’s roast malts and lactose in the aroma. Lactose prominent again in the mouth where it is slightly sweet, smooth and creamy. Plus roasted malts and traces of vanilla. Some traces of dark fruits come through later. This is a decent mainstream porter.
