Brewed to mark the 850th anniversary of the trial of Thomas Becket at Northampton Castle and inspired by the recent discovery of the town's first commercial brewery at an archaeological dig opposite our brewery. We have crafted a sweet dark and malty pint with honey the key constituent, an ingredient often found in Mediaeval ales.

Bottle shared at Chris and Ruth shindig 04/08/2018. Many thanks. A clear amber red brown coloured pour with a a fine beige grey head. Aroma is hay, toffee, grassy, weed. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, nutty malts, green apple, woody apple, thin grains. Palate is semi sweet, airy carbonation.

Bottle at Pre GBBF Shindig 2018. Clear amber colour lasting beige head. It's a classic British brown bitter. Some malt some apple some dry twig.

Bottle care of Colin. It pours clear brown with small beige head. The aroma is earthy, musty, dirt, brown bread, rivita and spice. The taste is drying, bitter, earth, tannin, oily, bark, chewy, tannin and spice with a drying finish. Medium body and high, foamy carbonation. Very drying and tannic. Pretty shit and chewy. Tannic. Not for me.

Cask from the wood, halfpint, as Phipps Becket’s Honey Ale, at the SPBW 1st National Woodfest, Castleford. Red amber colour, large off-white head. Aroma of malts and honey. The flavour is also malty (with a hint of roast) with honey notes, not too sweet though. Moderate hops, some woody notes, dry finish.

[ As Phipps NBC Becket’s Ale ].Clear medium orange amber colour with a small average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly lasting - diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, cookie, caramel, biscuit malt. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration, sweet malt, pale malt, sugary. Tried at the Lincoln beer festival 2017 as Becketts Honey. Deep reddish Amber colour with a white head. Aroma more malty than honey. The sweetness from the honey comes through on the finish.

Bottle from the Blue Glass, Bedford. Light to mid-brown, hazy with a big tight sandalwood head. Honey, caramel malt, a metallic hint. Full sweet taste, extremely malty. Hint of sourness in the finish doesn’t do it any favours. Just ok really, I tire of it quickly.
