Bottle from Blue Glass, Bedford. Pours copper brown with a good sized off-white head. Aroma of malt, light toasting, toffee, light chocolate and fruit. Moderate sweetness, medium plus bitterness. Medium body, slight oily texture, high carbonation. Malty, bitter finish. Too carbonated, but otherwise sound.

Cask @ Three Cups, Bedford. Mid to dark brown, translucent. Small head of natural carbonation. Malt, chocolate, light vinegar in the aroma. Sweet malty taste, but a bitter chocolatey twinge balances. Medium bitter finish. Not bad.

50cl bottle from Asda, bottled conditioned, batch number 254. An attractive deep golden brown colour with just a trace of head; aroma of muscavado sugar; rather thin in the mouth, but with earthy malt, raisins, and chocolate flavours; then a dry finish. A very drinkable bitter.

(Cask at Pembury Tavern, Hackney, London, 16 Apr 2009) Dark reddish brown colour with brief, off-white head. Malty nose with notes of dried fruit, prunes, raisins and nuts. Malty taste with dried fruit, prunes, raisins, dried figs and a mild bittersweet finish. Medium body with a solid malt foundation. Nicely balanced and well constructed.
