330 ml can. Pours a deep reddish brown with moderate bubbly head. Aromas of brown sugar, metallic malts, dry raisins and caramel. Flavors follow same with emphasis on dry caramel and raisins. Not getting much barrel. Maybe some dates if I think about it. Very good even without barrel notes.

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours deep rich purplish brown with a medium bubbly tan head. The aroma is bitter - sweet, loads of dark and dried fruits, date, prune, raisin, cranberry, fruit cake, warming spice, treacle, cacao, fruit & nut chocolate bar, oily, unctuous, vanilla and whisky fudge. The taste is bitter-sweet upfront, rich and toothy, toasty malts, sticky, warming alcohol, whisky warmth, oak, spice, loads of dried fruits, date, prune, raisin, sultana, vinous character, nuttiness, Dundee cake, whisky fudge, vanilla, treacle toffee and sappy resin with a warning spicy whisky finish. Fulsome body and moderate, lively carbonation. Flavourful with a great depth to it. I really like the balance it strikes, where sweetness is offset by bitterness and booze. Tasty.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from HOTM. Pours clear copper-brown with a small, fading beige fizz topping. Big, fairly sweet, with meaty well toasted malts, lots of caramel and toffee, a little maple syrup, vanilla, plenty of berries, dried fruits, dates and figs, raisins. Full bodied, lightly oily and chewy, with fine, spritzy carbonation. Warming finish, a little sticky, plenty of bourbon and vanilla, more toasted caramel and bread, nips of leafy bitterness, more gooey aged berries and dates. Really tasty gear. Definitely provides the boost.

Clear red-brown beer, head fizzles out veeery quickly. Smell is all boozy fruit and bourbon. Flavour is dried fruit, bourbon, a little malt, toffee. It's a LITTLE sweeter than I'd choose but it's also far too drinkable as it doesn't taste at all boozy in terms of alcohol burn. Very nice.
