A special ’black’ version of the ever popular pale ale. Big hoppy notes and yet as dark as can be. One off brew for the White Horse Neatishead birthday weekend.

Festival special. 3.8% Cask gravity at Pigs Ear Festival 2016. Black beer lasting tan head. A bit like a mid a bit like a light black session ipa. I shouldn’t like it but its ok. Some chocolate some thinnish malt. Ok. Some roast some hop

Cask at PE 2016. It pours cloudy black with a small beige head. The aroma is soft, sweet, berry, jammy fruits, candy, fruit cordial and blueberry pie. The taste is smooth, bitter, toasty, berry skin, fruit pie, charred earth, umami, ash, leather and peppery spice with a drying finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Not bad for a fruity mild.

Cask at Pigs Ear 2016 - London. Pours rich brown with a creamy topping. The nose has suggestions of citrus fruits, cocoa. Light sweet flavour with mellow dark malt character, toast, hints of chocolate, more citrusy notes, low bitterness. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes with yet more zesty citrus, fm restrained cocoa, a little scorched earth bitterness. Good depth for a milde.

Flavour is composed of semi sweet light pine resin, wood, nutty malts. Forest fruits. Palate is semi sweet, medium light bodied, moderate carbonation. Good stuff.
