27/6/2024. Cask at The Pilot of Mumbles. Pours clear very dark mahogany brown with a lasting creamy beige head. Good pour. Aroma is coffee, roasted malt, chocolate, dark fruits, liquorice, ash. Moderate sweetness, medium roasted bitterness. Moderate body, quite smooth, soft carbonation. Very nice, easily one of the best beers I’ve had on the trip.

Cask ale, half-pint, at the Pilot brewpub. Steady tan-coloured head, rich lacing, jet black in the glass. Roasted malty nose, hints of nuts and dark fruits, promising. Black malty flavours with moments of liquorice, dough and biscuit. Dry and roasted malty finish. Pleasing version of the style. (Mumbles 04.10.2018).

1st December 2015
Pigs Ear Day 1. Cask. Almost opaque black - brown beer, small bubbly pale tan head. Palate is light, semi dry and has modest fine carbonation. Roasty bitter dark malts, some floral bitterness and tangy dark fruits underneath. Dry finish with a tangy bitter linger. Clean but just another roasty tangy stout.

Cask at Pig’s Ear 2015. It pours near black with a small, bubbly beige head. The nose is soft, toasty, earthy, charred wood, mild acidity, coffee grounds, cardboard, liquorice and toasted sesame seeds. The taste is toasty, some acidity, earthy roast, charred wood, coffee, umami and toasted sesame with a dry, toasty finish. Light - medium body and fine carbonation. Pretty simple and a touch thin. So-so.

Cask at Pigs Ear 2015, day 1 - London. Pours mostly clear red-brown with a frothy, tan head. Dark bread in the nose with vague accents of chocolate. Light sweet flavor with earthy bitterness, light plastic, leather and cocoa. Medium bodied with soft carbonation; so so condition. Bittersweet chocolate to finish, with mellow roast, more earth. Overall, just OK.

On cask @ the Pilot of Mumbles. Appearance - opaque black with a nice crema head. Nose - light chocolate and some nuts and general sweet malt. Taste - more of the same. Nice creamy chocolate note. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly elegant finish. Overall - the pick of the three beers on cask for sure.
