Every batch of pFriem Flanders Blonde spends eighteen months in an oak barrel where it inherits the flavors and aromas of the Pinot Noir that was once aged in the very same cask. Now overflowing with notes of green apple, hints of lemon zest and a spritzy finish, this ale is definitely ready for a glass of its very own.

Bottle from The Beer Mongers, Portland. Aroma is funky with oak, pinot noir wine, grapes and apples. Delicate fruit, wine and barnyard funk with sour lemon and vinous notes. Flavour is sweeter than I’d hoped, but also tart and mildly sour. Body is medium. Delicate brewing, would have liked this a bit more dry, that being said this has exquisite qualities.

Rating #8008, Beer #16 of 17 (8 beers on either side of #8000 plus the magic 8000th itself) Bottled 04/08/15 (Vintage 2015) // Purchased; 04-May-2015 // Sampled: 04-May-2020 Perfectly clear golden and peach coloured body with a very thin, barely covering the top, pure white head that fades very quickly and leaves literally nothing on top. Aroma of tart funk, brett, soured raspberries, oak, alcohol, cleanser, white grapes, lemons, limes and a dash of apple cider vinegar - quite strong throughout in the nose. Light-bodied; Assertive effervescence up front; Very pungent grass, lemon zest, floral and super oaky dry notes that show first in the flavour with some bretty and complex spontaneously fermented yeast notes coming through that picks up even more at the end with a sudden burst of sugars, fruits, light malt and a dash of white pepper. Aftertaste shows a lot of complexity from the oak, yeast, foeder and fruits with some good support from the malt and grain bill and adding a dash of bitterness at the end, not really from hops, but on the drier side. Overall, a very nice and super elegant beer that shows very well, super complex and a great comparison to show how beer could be treated in opposition to wine. A great beer overall and one that could be found, bought, kept in a cellar and drank at the right time, some many years later, just like I did...or I suppose it could be purchased and drank immediately, but what would be the fun in that! This was the sixteenth beer of my 8000th celebration, the seventh on the 'other side' of 8000, and was a great option for a celebration beer! I sampled this 37,5 corked and caged bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Portland, Oregon on 04-May-2015 for US$8,99 while I had two kids and my youngest was just 4 months and two days old, now I've got three kids, sampled exactly five years later on 04-May-2020 at my house (didn't own that at the time) here in Washington, as Beer #16 of the 8000th Beer Celebration!

Bottle from Craft Brewed shared at a small bottle share after State of Origin 2018. Pours a clearish gold with a finger of white foam that lingers. Lovely wood-forward nose with musty, cobwebed lemons and light sultan raisin acidity. Smooth on the palate, creamy with a sherry-like character. Effortlessly smooth and drinkable with more lemon notes alongside pear and muscat. More woody oak on the finish with a light tartness. Very good.

Bottle thanks to Brian! Pours crystal clear yellow, medium fizzy white head, dissipates quickly, some lacing. Aroma is Brett, oak, basement, lemon, light vinous notes. Flavor is very light tart, light plus funk. Mineral, lemon, Brett, vinous. Light plus body, spritzy carbonation. For whatever reason I was not expecting much from this one, but it was pretty nice.

Clear golden with the Fain Whitehead. Nice white funky aroma with a little bit of yeast and candied sugars. Sweet flavors with very toned down funk. Tart apple and sweet fruit. Nice but I wish it was a bit sharper.

Draft 10 oz pour at Special Brews, Lynnwood. Clean and shiny golden pour with a thin, active head. Very nice soft wine notes here. Tart, white grape and mixed fruit aroma. Flavor is semi dry, white grape, appropriate tart. Very pleasant flavor. Smooth and delicious. Very nice carb. Balance is spot on. Excellent addition to the style. Totally on board with this.

Bottle 375ml. corked @ [ Morten minus Peter Tasting ]. [ As pFriem Flanders Blonde ].Clear medium yellow color with a small to average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, moderate yeasty, barnyard, funky, leather, tart, grapes, apple, baking yeast. Flavor is moderate sweet and light acidic with a long duration, sweet malt, sweet fruit, baking yeast, pinot noir barrel - wine, apple. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. Aroma was very complex and fine, flavor was a bit disappointing after that big aroma - but still very nice ... [20170401] 9-3-8-3-17
