Can from somewhere in Oxford, The Beerd I think and drunk at home. Black beer lasting thin tan head. Dark chocolate aroma. Oily. Syrupy. Not sure I get a lot of coconut. Not very good carbonation. A mostly oily dark chocolate porter. Quite dry on the finish, quite bitter. A little coconut on the finish I guess. It’s ok I guess but not to my taste.

Can on the train to Bingoham (the mighty 12 leading), 04/02/17. Black with a decent light tan covering. Nose is a touch farty, dark fruit tang, earthy, light spice, cocoa rub, touch of red berry, farty aspect makes way as you drink to more dark fruit kinda vibes. Taste comprises dark malts, light chocolate and coconut scrub, roast malts, toffee, light spice, charr, dark fruit tang. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Ok porter … a little too earthy and tangy for a coconut nombre.

Can at home from Brighton. A tasty but light porter. The vanilla is very strong compared to the coconut which comes across as a secondary or tertiary flavour after chocolate.

Can at home in London - sourced from the London Brewers’ Market, I believe. Pours hearty brown with a skittish, creamy tan head. The aroma has notes of creamy toffee and some coconut as well, mild roast, chocolate. Medium sweet flavour with a continuing pleasant gooey-creamy toffee and coconut oil melange, relaxed roasted malts, mellow bitterness. Light bodied with average carbonation. Pretty well balanced in the finish, more oily coconut, touches of coffee, dry chocolate, brown bread. It is perhaps a bit restrained overall, but it also - overall - a very drinkable beer.

Cask at Crate. It pours black with a medium beige head. The aroma is soft, sweet, quite mellow, cocoa and toasted coconut. The taste is worryingly tart upfront, tangy, dark fruits, balsamic vinegar, tangy plum, toaster coconut, earthy roast, wood and cocoa with a dry finish. Medium body and soft carbonation. Aroma is promising, but it tastes infected. A shame.
