Pigs Ear Day 1. Cask. Almost opaque brown beer, small pale tan head. Palate is airy, semi dry and reasonable fine carbonation. Little coffee. Spicy esters. Mild tangy dark fruits. A little spice in the finish. Tasty enough.

Cask at Pig’s Ear 2015. It pours darkest brown with a small off-white head. Then nose is bitter-sweet, filter coffee, cheap plain chocolate, creaminess, fudge and umami. The taste is bitter-sweet, spicy, charred wood, earthy, ashy, liquorice, umami, burnt toast and some astringency with a dry, ashy finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Aroma is quite nice, but I find the beer a bit harsh on the palate. OK at best.

Cask at Pigs Ear 2015, day 1 - London. Pours mostly clear, deep brown with a foamy, off-white head. Heavy coffee in the aroma, beneath which sit notes of roasted malts and chocolate. Light to medium sweet flavor with oily coffee, bittersweet baking cocoa, earth, berries and brown bread. Medium bodied, oily and lightly chewy, with fine carbonation; OK condition. Sweet finish with gooey chocolate and heavy coffee. Rich coffee character for sure, but overall it’s not massively drinkable.
