Cask at shrewsbury Arms, Stafford. Pours the classic “bitter brown” with a generous cream head. Nose has aromas of Malt, nuts and grain. Slightly watery in the mouth, but still plenty going on. Quite a lot of fruit flavours, particularly cherrie. Sweet malts too, contrasting with wholebread and toffee. Finish is generally fruity. It’s good, I like it.

[Cask at the Bell, Waltham St Lawrence.] A copper coloured pour with a ring of white head; aroma of toasted whole meal bread; rather thin in the mouth with a burnt caramel taste; and a watery finish with a woody bitterness.

Forever Bury Beer Festival 2018. Clear darker copper coloured ale. There's sweet roasted malts in both aroma and taste with an easy-drinking texture, and a hint of nut.

Handpull cask at the Salmon, Leicester. Dark amber, clear with a wisp of white head. Heavily roast malt, foraged berry and some coffee bean in the aroma. Bittersweet balanced taste with a heavy chewy malt taste balanced by fruity hop character. Simple and competent but not all that exciting.
