The beer that helped build our brewery; Bell’s Amber Ale features both toasted and sweet caramel notes from carefully selected malts, balanced with herbal and citrus hop aromas. Capped by a clean bitterness, it’s incredibly versatile with food, but very tasty on its own.

Bottle @ Brad’s house Minneapolis. Pours a hazy burnt orange appearance with a cream colored head. Nutty, toasty grainy, earthy, lightly sweet aroma. Somewhat creamy, bitter herbal, straw, toasty bready flavor. Ok.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled 3/22/2012. Pours a very hazy orange amber color with a nice 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some decent spotty lacing clings to the glass. Aromas of biscuit, toast, caramel, light citrus, floral, and nuttiness. Some pretty good well balanced aromas that are a bit muted. Taste of caramel, biscuit, grapefruit, orange, floral, toast, nuttiness, and light pine. Light bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, grapefruit, toast, floral, and light pine on the finish for a short bit. Slightly dry on the finish. Good balance of citrus hop flavors with the malt backbone. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and slightly crisp mouthfeel. Alcohol is well hidden with pretty much no warming noticed at all on the finish. Very easy to drink as expected for 5.8%. Overall this is a very nice amber ale. Nice flavor balance and smoothness; very sessionable and enjoyable.

Jake’s Pub, Chicago tap ($6): Pours an amber color with an off-white head. Aroma is of caramel malts, fruitiness, and a nice hoppy edge. Taste is predictably similar, but in a good way. This is a standard amber ale, which doesn’t succumb to amber ale boredom. The hoppy element in a nice touch. The malts are well-balanced with the hops. In short, this is an excellent session.

From notes. Draft 4oz glass from a flight at Old Chicago. Has a light amber color to it with a frothy off-white head. Looks pretty good. It has a slight hop scent but I think the head is blocking most of the aroma. Its lightly bitter. It tastes more malty than hoppy. Roasted nuts. Light bodied with a creamy texture and soft carbonation. Overall, its not bad. Something I would drink again but not seek out.

Looks nice, hazy and thick and amber with a lovely, lasting head. Smells like a combination of sweet malt and wet towels. Not sure what that odor is, but it’s a little sour and mildewy, not what you want featured in your beer’s nose. Taste regains lost ground, sweet and caramel laced, with a grassy, semiroasted middle that fades into a sturdy hop finish. The hops take command of the second half of the beer, bracing the initial sweetness, but I’m still not entirely sold on this beer. The next bottle could go either way.... (5/19/09)

Received in trade from TexIndy, Thanks for the opportunity. Pours a cloudy copper with a bubbly white head that shows some staying power. Smells of caramel and dough, mild citrus hops in the background. Taste has much of the same with a more pronounced hop bite. Sweet malts mix up a grainy, caramel, bready taste. Citrus Herbal hops play a supporting role. Sweet sticky syrupy in the mouth, medium body crisp carbonation. Good little session ale, nothing spectacular, but definitely drinkable.

12 oz bottle i got in a variety case I bought in Lake Harmony, PA. Amber/copper pour with nice lasting head which left very thick lacing. Cereal and malt aromas. Medium body, good carbonation and some creaminess rounds it out. Toasted flavors, molasses, balanced hops and malts, mild bitterness on the finish. Very enjoyable amber. Easy drinking with some complexity.
