As the name suggests, an extremely smooth, lightly hopped 4% pale ale. A blend of four quality malts delivers a well balanced body and copper colour. An aroma of soft fruit and honey and balanced bitterness are provided by additions of English hops at four different stages of brewing.

17/01/2020. Cask at the 11th Elysian Winter Beer Festival. Pours clear bright golden amber with a bubbly off-white head. Aroma of hops, fruit, malt, flowers and caramel. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness. Moderate body, slight oily texture, average carbonation. Sweet caramel finish. Not bad.

Cask at the Live & Let Live, Cambridge on 18th April 2019. Coppery amber with shallow off-white foam and full lacing. Grassy hop on biscuit malt aroma.nutty maltiness in-mouth and fine grassy hops. Some citrus in a finish dominated by caramel malt.

Cask at Rampant Horse, Needham Market. Nil aroma, perhaps a floral strand. Dark gold. Insubstantial white head. Light bitter. Quite flowery but let down by underlying boiled veg. Light bodied. Watery. Flat carbonation. Long astringent finish. Bland watery take on an APA.

Cask (gravity) @ NWAF 2015, National Winter Ales Festival (2015), The Roundhouse, Pride Park, Derby, Derbyshire, England, DE24 8JE. [ As Calvors Smooth Hoperator ].Clear medium amber orange color with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, good lacing, mostly lasting to diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, sweet malt, sugary malt, earthy malt notes. Flavor is moderate sweet with a average duration, sweet malt, fruity, earthy notes. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20150211] 5-3-6-3-11 Bottle 330ml. [ As Calvors Smooth Hoperator ].Clear medium yellow - amber orange colour with a average, frothy - fizzy and open, good lacing, mostly lasting to diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, sweet malt, light to moderate hoppy. Flavor is moderate sweet and light bitter with a average duration, sweet malt, toffee, malt extract, caramel. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20150806] 5-3-5-3-10

Cask at Chippenham Beer Festival. Nice clear copper colour. Like walking down a shady green leafy lane with lemons hanging from the bushes. Pleasant enough bitter.

Cask at the Grain & Hop Store, Cambridge. Dark gold with a modicum of filmy white head. Hmmmm... doesn’t smell too hoppy for the name, mostly breach malt with hints of grass. Sweet taste, not terribly engaging, with a bitter/sour note at the end. Surprisingly dry finish. Can’t get hugely excited about it but at least it’s well made.

Burnley Beer Festival 2015. Clear copper-gold. Has an easy drinking character with grainy-malts abundant. There’s a mild sweetness in its nose.
