Cask gravity at Pig’s Ear 2014. It pours clear deep amber with minimal head. The nose is toasty, porridge, varnish, wood, oiliness and brown bread. The taste is bitter-sweet, oily, brown bread, peppery spice, toffee, earth, umami aspect and charred wood. Light-medium body, low carbonation and oily mouth-feel. OK ESB at best, but far from exciting.

Bottle bought at Corks of Cotham, Bristol. Deep chestnut in colour with a decent, off-white head and plenty of carbonation. Aroma of tart damson fruit, cocoa powder and grassy hops. Flavour of crisp, cereal malts, more fruit and a touch of lemon sharpness. Finish was moderately bitter yet lingering. Good.
