Bottle. Nose is smoked, malty, ham, sweet smoke. Taste is very sweet malts, caramel, honey, leading to a smokey finish, with savoury ham and cheese characteristics. Mouthfeel is thin and flat. I love a smoked beer, so enjoyed the smokey flavours, but the base beer is too sweet and flat. I can’t see why you would ever drink this over a German original

Cask (gravity) @ NWAF 2016, National Winter Ales Festival (2016), The Roundhouse, Pride Park, Derby, Derbyshire, England, DE24 8JE. [ As Torrside Franconia ].Clear medium to dark amber color with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, caramel, sweet malt, smoke, meat. Flavor is moderate sweet and light bitter with a long duration, smoked, meat, sweet malt, wood. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. [20160217]

GraviCask, shared with Finn at Camra’s National Winter Ales Festival. Cloudy apricot coloured body. Minimal head. Smoked fruity aroma. Similar taste of smoked fruit and ham. Prolonged finish. Medium to thin bodied. Likable to a certain extent (The Roundhouse, Derby 19.02.2016).

Cask at NWAF, Derby, Wednesday 17th February 2016 Hazy amber with filmy head, smoke on the nose it is a little sausagey and smoked ham, hey this is another very decent beer, interestingly I get a late touch of vanilla, good stuff. A7 A3 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5
